At Bard Graduate Center, we learn from things.

This transferware platter, manufactured in Staffordshire, England in the nineteenth century, tells us the story of a calamitous break and a skillful repair with metal staples that put this earthenware dish back into service. The care with which the broken pieces were reassembled reflects how much the owners valued this dish.
