Samantha Fleischman is a first year PhD student studying late medieval and early modern Jewish material culture. She most recently completed her MA at the Bard Graduate Center where she wrote her final qualifying paper on the relationship between Christian silversmiths and the Jewish communities for whom they produced ceremonial objects as seen through a pair of eighteenth century Venetian Torah finials. Samantha is additionally interested in the growing collection and cultivation of Jewish arts in survey museums. During her MA, she held a curatorial research internship at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston focusing on the Judaica collection as well as Byzantine and medieval textiles. Prior to her arrival at the Bard Graduate Center, Samantha worked in development at the Jewish Museum in New York and received her BA from Yale University in Classical Civilization.
