Tenesha Carter Johnson is a curator and art historian born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas. Her research focuses on Black feminist material practice with special interest in Black quilting traditions. Her work explores the relationship between material culture and public history, wherein quilts serve as records of lived experience and historical intervention. She holds a BA in art history from Spelman College in Atlanta and has contributed research to leading institutions and digital resources: Museum of African American History, Boston and Nantucket; Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture; and the Fashion and Race Database.
