Elizabeth Provost is a first year Ph.D. student at BGC. Her SSHRC-funded research examines the material, cultural, and social histories of early modern European sculpture, with a particular interest in peculiar objects at the margins of art historical discourse. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in chemistry and art history from the University of Toronto and a Master of Art Conservation from Queen’s University, where she developed a non-destructive method for analyzing organic patinas on Renaissance bronzes. She has contributed to the Bernini’s Bronzes project and served as a research fellow for the Renaissance and Baroque Polychrome Sculpture in Rome and Lazio database project. Elizabeth is a writer and editor covering visual art, museums, and cultural heritage. With a focus on storytelling that connects scholarship with the public, she hosts Matter of Art, a podcast that brings art to wider audiences.
