Courtney A. Stewart is a gemologist (G.G.), researcher and lecturer in Islamic Art History, with a particular focus on the history of jewelry and gemstones. She has worked on a number of curatorial projects in the department of Islamic Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art since 2010 and has served as a consultant at the Aga Khan Museum, Toronto since 2017. Courtney holds an MA from the Bard Graduate Center, an MA in Museum Studies from the University of Toronto, and a BA Honours in Comparative Literature from Western University, in London, Canada. Her work has been cited in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and on NPR. Courtney has taught Islamic art history at the University of Toronto and continues to teach at New York University. Her dissertation focuses on the rise of the brilliant cut in diamonds from India in the seventeenth century.
