DESCRIPTION:This three-session workshop reveals the tools\, techniques\,\na
 nd rich interplay between maker\, musician\, and audience. Participants\ne
 xperience the artistry of musical collaboration\, create their own instrum
 ents\,\nand develop a strong listening ear. No musical background or exper
 ience\nnecessary.\n\nApril 2\nSession I: Workshopping Woodwinds\nMusicians
  David Ross and Benjamin Matus lead this\nsession covering a range of wood
 wind instruments and the elements of classical\nmusic. Participants decons
 truct these instruments to discover the secrets of\ntheir distinct sounds.
  \n\nApril 9\nSession II: Strung Out: Violin Making\nStudy the history and
  development of design and construction\, from the strings\nto the bow and
  materials used to create the violin\, in this session led by\nviolinist\,
  Seohee Min and a violin maker.\n\nApril 16\nSession III: In Time: Collabo
 rative Sound (11am–2pm at Bard Graduate Center)\nPeek inside the working m
 echanisms of instruments and selected musical\ntraditions from around the 
 world with the Attacca Quartet. Participants\ndeeply explore the working r
 elationships among musicians and instruments.\n\nBaroque Bassoonist\, Ben 
 Matus\, has performed under the\ndirection of some of the leading conducto
 rs in the field of Early Music. Ben\nholds degrees in performance from the
  Juilliard School and the Eastman School\nof Music. In addition to the Bar
 oque Bassoon\, Ben performs frequently on\nClassical Bassoon\, Modern Bass
 oon\, Dulcians\, and Recorders.  Violinist Seohee Min enjoys performing a
 \nwide selection of repertoire\, from early music to classical\nto contemp
 orary. She is a native of Seoul\, South Korea. She made her\nsolo debut at
  the age of 11 with the Cheongju Philharmonic Orchestra\,\nperforming Moza
 rt’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in G major. An honoree of numerous\ncompetition
 s including the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Concerto Competition\,\nshe wo
 n the Colorado College Music Festival Concerto Competition in the summer\n
 of 2012\, where performed the Prokofiev Violin Concerto No.1 in D major wi
 th the\nfestival orchestra. She also won the 2014 Eastman Open Strings\nCo
 ncerto Competition\, in which she performed the Prokofiev Violin Concerto
 \nNo.2 in G minor with Eastman Philharmonia in Kodak Hall\, Rochester\,\nN
 Y. She has also won the 2nd prize at the 2015 Hellam Young\nArtists’ Compe
 tition. Seohee is currently pursuing her Master’s\nat the Juilliard School
 . She has received her BM and BA in Violin\nPerformance and Business\, a c
 ertificate in Arts Leadership Program and a\nPerformer’s Certificate. Prai
 sed by the New York Times for the “limpid\nsweetness” of his baroque flute
  playing\, David Ross is one of\nthe leading professional historical fluti
 st in North America. He is the\nprincipal flutist with the period instrume
 nt orchestra Mercury in Houston\,\nTexas\, and with the Sebastians in New 
 York City where he resides. Mr. Ross\nbegan his training as a modern fluti
 st at the Cleveland Institute of Music and\nwent on to earn historical per
 formance degrees from the Royal\nConservatory of The Hague and the Juillia
 rd School. He remains dedicated to\nexploring and expanding the possibilit
 ies of his instrument\, prioritizing\ncreativity and spontaneity in his ap

  Movement 1\, David Ross & Immanuel DavisThe Attacca Quartet has engaged i
 n extensive\neducational and community outreach projects\, serving as gues
 t artists and\nteaching fellows at the Lincoln Center Institute\, the Bost
 on University\nTanglewood Institute\, Vivace String Camp in New York\, the
  Woodlands ChamberFest\nin Texas\, and Animato Summer Music Camp at Florid
 a International University in\nMiami.  Since 2006\, they have performed in
  yearly benefit concerts\nsupporting the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation’s 
 efforts.  The members of\nthe Attacca Quartet currently reside in New York
  City.  They are\nrepresented by Baker Artists\, LLC.First Prize winners o
 f the 7th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in\n2011\, top pri
 zewinners and Listeners’ Choice Award recipients in the 2011\nMelbourne In
 ternational Chamber Music Competition\, and winners of the Alice\nColeman 
 Grand Prize at the 60th annual Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition in\n20
 06\, the internationally acclaimedAttacca Quartet has become one of Americ
 a's\npremier young performing ensembles. They were recently named the Quar
 tet in\nResidence for The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The quar
