ABOUT THE EXHIBITIONS

Swedish Wooden Toys is the first in-depth study of the history of wooden playthings in Sweden from the seventeenth to the twenty-first centuries. Featuring remarkable doll houses, puzzles and games, pull toys, trains, planes, automobiles, and more, this exhibition explores Sweden’s long and enduring tradition of designing and making wooden toys and examines the cultural embrace of the wooden toy as a sign of timelessness and quality.

Revisions—Zen for Film, through a singular presentation of one of the most evocative films created by the Korean-American artist Nam June Paik (1932-2006), explores the questions: How do works of art endure over time in the face of aging materials and changing interpretations of their meaning? How do decay, technological obsolescence, and the blending of old and new media affect what an artwork is and can become? And how can changeable artworks encourage us to rethink our assumptions of art as fixed and static?
