DESCRIPTION:6 pm – reception\n6:30 pm – 7:30 pm – lecture\n\nThe last forty
years of computing history have been defined\nby the ascendance of person
al computers\, as computers were brought out of\nlaboratories and technolo
gy centers and into the purview of the individual\nuser. Computers have be
come smaller\, faster\, more powerful\, and more\ncomplex in their capabil
ities. In fact\, so much has happened so quickly\nthat we often forget jus
t how much our interactions with computers have come to\ndefine daily life
. Kimon Keramidas will discuss ways of thinking about\ninterfaces as histo
rical objects and encourage us to consider the role of\ncomputers in the w
orld around us.\n\nThe Interface Design: Forty Years of Personal Computing
is\ncurated by Kimon Keramidas\, assistant professor and director of the
\nDigital Media Lab at the Bard Graduate Center.
