 tically engaged Peruvian scholars\nembarked on a journey to a remote regio
 n of the Andes to explore the life of\nthe Q’ero peoples\, the alleged las
 t untouched descendants of the Incas. This\nexploration resulted in the co
 llection of several objects\, among them textiles\,\nlooms\, and musical i
 nstruments. In this collection\, housed today at the\nAmerican Museum of N
 atural History\, two woven bags for carrying\ncoca—chuspas—stand out for t
 heir stylistic features and their apparent ancient\nmanufacture. In this g
 allery talk\, Antonio Sánchez-Gómez will explore how these\nchuspas provid
 e a rich trove of information that ranges from the relation of\nthe bags t
 o the Inca culture\, to the colonial and contemporary meanings\nembedded i
 n their visual and material characteristics. \n\nAntonio Sánchez-Gómez is 
 a Colombian-born researcher\nand lecturer on design history. He is a recen
 t graduate of BGC.
