6 pm reception
6:30 pm film screening and conversation
As arteries of commerce, culture, and history, rivers have
been central to the work of avant-garde filmmaker Peter Hutton for more than 40
years. This program will feature a screening of Two Rivers (2001–2),
a poetic, comparative portrait of the Hudson River and Yangtze River that
speaks to the rise of China in relation to the decline of a post-industrial
American region. The screening will be followed by a conversation between Peter
Hutton and film curator Joshua Siegel.
Peter Hutton is the Charles Franklin Kellogg and Grace
E. Ramsey Kellogg Professor of the Arts and director of the Film and Electronic
Arts program at Bard College.
Joshua Siegel is a curator in the department of film
and media at the Museum of Modern Art.
