 ception the Waterweavers exhibition\nbegan by exploring a strategy referre
 d to by curator José Roca as\n“figure/ground\,” an idea that describes the
  connections between immersive\nwall-based artworks and functional objects
  placed at the center of each\ngallery. In this conversation\, moderated b
 y art critic Gregory Volk\, José\nRoca will discuss the development of thi
 s idea and its final\nrealization in the exhibition with the artists Susan
 a Mejía and Jorge Lizarazo.\n\nJorge Lizarazo is a designer and founder of
  Hechizoo\, a\nweaving atelier based in Bogotá\, that makes contemporary t
 extiles using\ntraditional methods.Susana Mejía is an artist whose work in
  the exhibition\ncenters on the investigation of natural pigments in the C
 olombian Amazon.\nWith the assistance of indigenous communities\, she has 
 identified eleven\nbotanical species and the processes used to dye natural
  fibers.José Roca is Estrellita B. Brodsky Adjunct Curator of\nLatin Ameri
 can Art at Tate Modern in London and Artistic Director of FLORA\nars+natur
 a\, an independent space for contemporary art in Bogotá.Gregory Volk is an
  art critic\, curator\, and associate\nprofessor at Virginia Commonwealth 
 University School of the Arts.
