DESCRIPTION:American composers have long been inspired by the lavish\nspect
 acle and complex choreography of the circus. This concert musically evokes
 \nboth the familiar and the mysterious aspects of circus\, including clown
 s\, the\nflying trapeze\, menageries\, and magic shows. Richard Gordon and
  Robert Osborne\nare joined by Mary Testa for a selection of songs by Rich
 ard Rodgers\, Kurt\nWeill\, Cole Porter\, and others. A complimentary gall
 ery talk precedes this\nconcert at 2 pm. The concert begins at 3 pm.\n\nLe
 on Botstein is president and Leon Levy Professor in\nthe Arts and Humaniti
 es\, Bard College. He is also the music director and\nprincipal conductor 
 of the American Symphony Orchestra\, as well as a\ncontributing author to 
 The American Circus\, a collection of essays about\nthe history of the cir
 cus in the United States. This concert includes an\noptional gallery talk 
 at 2 pm.Richard Gordon\, pianist\, has performed with opera\ncompanies in 
 Washington\, D.C.\; St. Louis\, Missouri\; and Chautauqua\, New York.Rober
 t Osborne\, bass-baritone\, has sung many roles in\noperas ranging from Be
 rnstein to Weill. He is on the faculties of Barnard and\nVassar Colleges.M
 ary Testa is an American stage actress and a 2012\nDrama Desk Award winner
  for three decades of outstanding work\, including her\nperformance in Que
 en of the Mist.
