In this conversation, curator Béatrice Quette, art historian
Philip Hu, and gallery owner Roger Keverne discuss the role of connoisseurship
in our understanding of Chinese cloisonné and bronzes from the fifteenth
century to the present. They will consider current scholarship, the factors
that have contributed to dating cloisonné,and the impact of important
collectors such as Robert E. Kresko and Pierre Uldry.
Béatrice Quette is head of education at the Musée des Arts
décoratifs, Paris, and curator of the Cloisonné exhibition.
Philip Hu is associate curator of Asian art at the Saint
Louis Art Museum and author of Later Chinese Bronzes: The Saint Louis Art
Museum and Robert E. Kresko Collections.
Roger Keverne is a specialist in Chinese ceramics, jade, and
metalwork, and owner of Roger Keverne, Ltd., in London.
François Louis is an associate professor at BGC and author,
most recently, of “The Yuan Synthesis: Material Culture in Yuan China,” in
Genghis Khan and the Mongol Empire.
