  Hands: Applied Arts Training\nin New York City\, 1800–2020.'\n\nIn New Yo
 rk City we\nare surrounded by the decorative arts. Tobias's project as a B
 ard Graduate\nCenter Artist-in-Residence examines training programs for fo
 urteen\nspecific practices\, from 1800s penmanship to twenty-first-century
  social\npractice. She will trace her development process from\nLibrary re
 search to writing and making\, and concluding with prototypes of the\ncomp
 leted work.Jennifer Tobias is a scholar and\nillustrator. She holds a PhD 
 in Art History from the City University of New\nYork\, an MLS from Rutgers
 \, and a BFA from Cooper Union. She provided reader\nservices at the Museu
 m of Modern Art and Parsons School of Design libraries.\nHer illustrations
  are included in Health Design Thinking and Design is Storytelling\, both 
 by Ellen Lupton. She\nand Lupton are currently developing Extra Bold: A Fe
 minist\, Inclusive\, Subversive\, Non-Binary Field Guide for Graphic Desig
 n\, forthcoming from Princeton Architectural Press.This event will be held
