 wed by a moderated conversation and Q&A session. “A Story\nin the Making: 
 Creating Hearts of Our People: Native\nWomen Artists” (Jill Ahlberg Yohe)I
 n this talk\, Dr. Ahlberg Yohe will discuss the development of the\nrecent
  exhibition Hearts of Our People: Native Women\nArtists. Along with Teri G
 reeves (Kiowa\; co-curator) and an\nExhibition Advisory Board of twenty-on
 e Native artists and Native art scholars\nfrom across the United States an
 d Canada\, Native Women Artists was\nan attempt to incorporate alternative
  curatorial approaches to\na large traveling Native art exhibition. Dr. Ah
 lberg Yohe will reflect upon this\nprocess and share her experiences of cr
 eating this exhibition\, and the stories\nthat emerged through the making.
 \n\n“Decolonizing the Museum: An\nIndigenous Curator’s Thoughts” (heather 
 ahtone)In 2019\, dr. ahtone was asked “what has to\nhappen to make sure th
 at good curatorial work is not personality based but\ninstitutionalized fo
 r a longer lasting effect?” Considering this question\,\nahtone uses her c
 urrent work at First Americans Museum as a point of examining\nhow long te
 rm change can be effected to the benefit of the institution\,\naudiences\,
  and donors.Jill Ahlberg Yohe is the Associate Curator of Native American
 \nArt at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. In 2008\, Ahlberg Yohe received
  her PhD\nfrom the University of New Mexico\, where her dissertation focus
 ed on the social\nlife of weaving in contemporary Navajo life. Along with 
 Kiowa artist and\ncurator Teri Greeves\, Ahlberg Yohe is the co-curator of
  the traveling\nexhibition Hearts of Our People: Native Women Artists.\nAt
  Mia\, Ahlberg Yohe seeks new initiatives to expand understandings and new
 \ncuratorial practices of historic and contemporary Native art.\n\nheather
  ahtone is Senior\nCurator at First Americans Museum (FAM) in Oklahoma Cit
 y\, Oklahoma. She\nexamines the intersection between Indigenous cultural k
 nowledge and contemporary\nart. Working in the Native arts community since
  1993\, she has curated numerous\nexhibits\, publishes regularly\, and con
 tinues to seek opportunities to broaden\ndiscourse on global contemporary 
 Indigenous arts. She is a citizen of the\nChickasaw Nation and descended f
 rom the Choctaw Nation. She and her team are\nworking to prepare a global 
 destination celebrating the histories and culture\nof Oklahoma’s tribal co
 mmunities\, set to open in May 2021.This event will be held via Zoom. A li
 nk will be circulated to registrants by 3 pm on the day of the event.
