 ry.In January 2019\, Bard Graduate Center Library welcomed visual artists 
 JoAnne McFarland and Rachel Selekman to use the library to develop new wor
 k that highlights our unique collection as well as their respective approa
 ches to research. To mark the end of their residency\, each artist has alt
 ered a section of the library\, transforming study alcoves to exhibition s

 dule a visit.JoAnne McFarland is a poet\, painter\, and curator from Brook
 lyn. She is the former Exhibitions Director of A.I.R. Gallery and the foun
 der of Artpoetica\, a project space in Gowanus Brooklyn that links literar
 y and visual expression. Her latest poetry collection\, Identifying the Bo
 dy\, was published in 2018 by The Word Works. Her artwork is part of many 
 public and private collections\, including the Library of Congress and the
  Columbus Museum of Art. In her practice McFarland treats violence and cre
 ativity as diametrically opposed: each act of making thwarts violence’s ai
 m to destroy.Rachel Selekman is a visual artist based in Brooklyn. Recent 
 exhibitions include a solo show at Rosemont College in Rosemont\, PA\, and
  group exhibitions at the Invisible Dog Art Center\, Brooklyn\; Marc Strau
 s Gallery\, NYC\; Brooklyn Academy of Music\; Galerie Aurel Scheibler\, Be
 rlin\; Schoolhouse Gallery\, Provincetown\, MA\; and Lesley Heller Workspa
 ce\, NYC\; to name a few. Selekman’s work is in numerous public and privat
 e collections\, including the Museum of Modern Art\, Microsoft\, the US St
 ate Department\, and Montefiore Medical Center. Commissioned pieces can be
  found at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and the Virginia Medical Cen
 ter in Charlottesville. Her catalogue\, Rachel Selekman: Making Connection
 s\, which surveys her sculpture and works on paper\, was published in 2014
 . Selekman received her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and
  her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago\, where she recei
 ved a full-tuition scholarship.
