Kelsey Brow (MA, 2014), curator at the King Manor Museum in New York City, will give a talk in costume with culinary historian Joanna Pruess at the New School on January 30. Their lively dialogue, which focuses on the legacy of three of America’s First Ladies: Martha Washington, Abigail Adams, and Dolley Madison, was mentioned in the New York Times.


Colin Fanning (MA, 2013), a curatorial fellow at the Philadelphia Museum, is one of the curators of Design Currents: Oki Sato, Faye Toogood, Zanini de Zanine on view through March 12, 2017.


Serena Newmark (MA, 2007), a PhD candidate at Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany, will be speaking on “From the Palaces of Berlin to the Texas Frontier: The Furniture Designs of Prussian Architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel” at the 6th Biennial David B. Warren Symposium on American Material Culture and the Texas Experience held in Houston in February.


Julia Pastor (MA, 2015) recently published an article in the Journal of Modern Craft entitled “The Materiality of Tapestry in the Digital Age.” The topic arose from a paper that she wrote for the seminar, “Picturing Things: Photography as Material Culture,” taught by Aaron Glass and Catherine Whalen. Pastor is currently cataloguer in the Department of Drawings, Prints & Graphic Design at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.


Sarah Scaturro (PhD student), head conservator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, has contributed to Refashioning and Redress: Conserving and Displaying Dress to be published by the Getty Conservation Institute in 2017. Coauthored with her Met colleague, Joyce Fung, the chapter is entitled “A Delicate Balance: Ethics and Aesthetics at the Costume Institute, Metropolitan Museum of Art.”


Katie Tycz (MA, 2013), who is finishing her PhD from the University of Cambridge, recently started a Kress Interpretive Fellowship at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art in Tennessee. She will be helping to devise a reinterpretation and re-installation plan for the museum’s Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque collections with a particular focus on their Kress collection works
