Publications

For fifteen years, BGC has published Studies in the Decorative Arts, an internationally-acclaimed journal for studies in the decorative arts. The success of this journal represents the success also of a new institution at catalyzing intellectual conversation. We are planning to wind up Studies in the Decorative Arts with its Fall 2009 issue. A new journal, focusing on the wider the crossroads where decorative arts meets design history and material culture is planned for later in 2010. In addition to its print manifestation, this new journal will have its own web site dedicated to web-only features.

Also in 2010 BGC launches with Harvard University Press a new publishing initiative. “Cultural Histories of the Material World” will be edited at BGC with a luminous external editorial board, and will be published by Harvard in two forms: on-line for free, in the spirit of Harvard’s Open Access program, and for a reduced cost in print-on-demand. The series aims to nurture work in areas and ways that are identified with BGC and with the hope of creating new forms of scholarship that will retain the rigor and focus of traditional monographs and collections of essays.
