Publications

Upon opening in 1993, the BGC Gallery began publishing scholarly books and catalogues in conjunction with our exhibitions. Yale University Press has been the co-publisher of Gallery Publications since 1995. Many of the titles on our extensive booklist have received international acclaim. The journal Studies in the Decorative Arts was published from 1993 to 2009. It was replaced in 2011 with West 86th: A Journal of Decorative Arts, Design History and Material Culture, which is now published with the University of Chicago Press. The BGC also publishes Cultural Histories of the Material World, a series that is dedicated to showing how attention to materiality can contribute to a more precise historical understanding of specific times, places, ways, and means. In 2013, we released our monumental History of Design: Decorative Arts and Material Culture, 1400—1600.
