Using Library Materials

The BGC Library collections are non-circulating and must be used within the BGC buildings; however, faculty and staff are permitted to check material out to their offices for as long as necessary. Please stop by the second floor reference desk to check out books for your office and return them to the ref desk when you've finished with them.  Note that we're unable to circulate loose, unbound issues of periodicals.

Caring for books

Nothing but paper bookmarks should be left between book pages—please do not put paper clips, pencils, Post-it notes, or any other bulky placemarkers in the text.  Corners should not be turned down to mark places in the text.

Please do not strain book spines by leaving them face-down and cracked open, or by stacking up open books to hold places in the text. Book cradles and book weights are available at the Reference Desk if necessary.

Special Collections materials

We're thrilled when faculty wish to use Special Collections material in class.  Please let the library staff know of any materials you'd like to use in class at least 24 hours in advance, and we can either bring them to your regular classroom on a book cart on the day of class, or you could arrange to hold that day's class in the library.

Personal requests to consult Special Collections material can be made directly at the second floor Reference Desk during any of its regularly staffed hours.
