Journal Overview

The Bard Graduate Center publishes a semiannual, interdisciplinary journal, Studies in the Decorative Arts , devoted to the examination and interpretation of the decorative arts and design. The journal provides a forum for the exposition of new research and interpretation as well as for discussion of scholarly and professional issues in the decorative arts. As a bridge between the academic, museum, and commercial art worlds, Studies in the Decorative Arts publishes new scholarship on the full range of the decorative arts and design without restriction as to medium, cultural environment, historical era, or geographical region. Fundamental to the journal's approach is the integration of traditional aesthetic and technical analysis with interdisciplinary studies covering economic, social, political, and architectural history; anthropology; philosophy; and literature. The journal has a distinguished international board of editorial advisors who are affiliated with leading museums and institutions around the world.
