Research at the BGC is the lifeblood of the institution. Formally, however, it is coordinated by the Research Department. As a “graduate research institute,” we are committed to the idea that high-level training of students is enhanced by constant contact with a vigorous research program, and that teaching should flow into scholarship.
At the BGC, research takes the form of a series of seminars, special endowed lectures and regular research-driven symposia. In addition, the BGC is home to a number of project-based researchers, including the BGC/AMNH post-doctoral Fellow, curators and affiliates of the Exhibitions Department, and scholars visiting from other institutions. An occasional luncheon series offers a forum for Fellows to present their work, in addition to the regular Faculty Works in Progress Seminars.
