Consortium for American Material Culture

The Consortium for American Material Culture (CAMC) was founded by the Bard Graduate Center in 2007. It brings together academics and curators at leading (relatively) local institutions: Boston University, Brown University, Yale University, Winterthur Museum, University of Delaware, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Smithsonian Institution, Brooklyn Museum, New-York Historical Society, and Metropolitan Museum of Art. Annual meetings in 2007 and 2008 discussed the interpretation of material culture in the different contexts of museum and academia, as well as the role of the artifact and collections in an age of new media. A future meeting is scheduled for May, 2009. CAMC Collaborations will include a blog, wiki, and a collaborative writing project.
