Oriental Influences on 18th Century Decorative Arts

This course will be connected to a small exhibition organized at The Frick Collection for the summer of 2011 and entitled: "Turkish Taste at the court of Marie-Antoinette". Although, the exhibition is scheduled to open on June 7, 2011 and close on September 11, 2011, students would be involved in the design of the exhibition, the writing of the labels and text panel. Sessions will also be organized at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and at The Frick Collection to examine objects related to the theme of the class and exhibition. The course will cover a broad picture of 18th century Orientalism, with a special focus on Turkish influences at the French court. 3 credits.
