Case Studies in Mid Century Modernism: Knoll International

This course is designed to take advantage of a BGC exhibition on the firm of Knoll that was famous throughout the second half of the twentieth century for furniture, interiors and textiles. Curators, scholars and conservators will discuss issues related to the exhibition with the class and some sessions will take place in the exhibition galleries. Critiques will conducted in pairs as well as by the class as a whole. Guest scholars will speak on Florence and Hans Knoll and on Eero Saarinen and students can also work on other major designers as well as companies associated with Mid Century Modern design. Assessment: class presentations, exhibition critiques and short research paper. 3 credits.
