In this lecture, art historian Peter Trippi casts light on three great stage icons by exploring their influence on the visual artists of their era. Transcending these divas’ representations in commercial advertising, fine artists cleverly inserted their costumes, poses, and facial expressions into works of “high” art exhibited at the Paris Salon, and London’s Royal Academy.
Peter Trippi curated the exhibition J.W. Waterhouse: The Modern Pre-Raphaelite. He is editor of Fine Art Connoisseur and former director of the Dahesh Museum of Art.
