2012 Iris Awards Luncheon

On April 18, 2012 the Bard Graduate Center honored outstanding contributions to patronage and scholarship in the decorative arts at the 16th Annual Iris Foundation Awards Luncheon held at 583 Park Avenue.  Susan Weber, Founder/Director is pictured below (third from left) with honorees Mark McDonald, Alisa LaGamma, Rahmi Koç, Leon Botstein, President of Bard College, and Hans Ottomeyer.  Click here for more photos of the event.

 

1st Annual Edible Book Festival 2012

On March 27, 2012, "books" created by BGC faculty, students, and staff were displayed, judged, and subsequently eaten at the BGC's First Annual Edible Book Festival.  Part of the 2012 International Edible Book Festival started by an artist and librarian to pay homage to French gastronomer, Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), the event falls on or around April 1st each year.  Photographs of the BGC entries were submitted to the international website (books2eat.com) for display with other creations from around the world. Click here for more photos from the event.

 

Materials Day 2012

Every semester, students at the BGC get an opportunity for some hands-on practice, as they explore materials and processes related to their fields of study. On March 17th, students had the opportunity to create illluminated letters in a workshop led by artist and BGC Head of Education Rebecca Allan. Stephen Jones Student Tour

On Friday, October 21, 2011 Stephen Jones gave a special tour for BGC students focusing on his practice as a milliner and his experiences working in the archives of the Victoria & Albert Museum in preparation for the Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones exhibition. Click here for more photos from the event.

 

Opening Reception for Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones

On September 14, 2011 the Bard Graduate Center hosted the opening reception for Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones.  In celebration, guests adorned themselves in a variety of toppers ranging from baseball caps to what appeared to be a replica of the Guggenheim Museum. Click here for more photos from the event.

 

BGC Scholarship Fund Gala

On September 13, 2011, the Bard Graduate Center celebrated the opening of Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones, a collaboration between the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and Stephen Jones, the world’s foremost hat designer. The evening’s silent auction featured hats designed by some of today’s most innovative tastemakers in the art and design world, and all proceeds from the Gala and auction supported the BGC Scholarship Fund. January Opening Receptions

On January 25, 2011 the Bard Graduate Center hosted opening receptions for two exhibitions, Cloisonné: Chinese Enamels from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties and the inaugural exhibition of the Focus Gallery, Objects of Exchange: Social and Material Transformation on the Late Nineteenth-Century Northwest Coast. Mid-Century Modern: Designs for New Lifestyles
A Benefit for the BGC Scholarship Fund

On January 19, 2011, the Bard Graduate Center hosted a Gala and silent auction featuring cocktail accessories, furniture, jewelry, tableware, textiles, fashion, and more in the timeless style of Mid-Century Modernism.
